Analysis of Prevalence and Healthcare Expenditure on Childhood Allergic Diseases Using Quantile Regression
Han Eun-Jeong

Abstract
Objective: This study aimed to identify prevalence and healthcare expenditure factors on childhood allergy disease using quantile regression analysis.

Methods: Using the 2015 Korea Health Panel, 3,123 children (42,171 cases) under 18 years were conducted. Total number of children who had allergy disease was 708 (3,575 cases). Among them, 60 children had two or more types of allergic disease within the same year. Through logistic regression and negative binominal regression, the odds ratio and the marginal effect were estimated for the group with allergic disease and the group with multiple allergic disease. Quantile regression was conducted to clearly understand the characteristics of healthcare expenditure due to childhood allergic diseases by quantile group.

Results: Logistic regression showed that sex, age, region and maternal working status were statistically significant for prevalence of childhood allergy disease. There were no significant differences in prevalence of allergy by household income and parent educational level. The association between outpatient hospital visit and socioeconomic variable was factored by age, region, type of insurance, and father's education level. Quantile regression resulted in that household income was not significant for healthcare expenditure in the group under 20%, but the group with the higher healthcare expenditure had more dependency on household income.

Conclusion:This finding which confirmed the association between household income and healthcare expenditure, can be used as an evidence for establishing and implementing health policy to reduce childhood allergic disease severity development.
